Like all Homebuilt kits, the Cabin package comes standard with everything you need to build your home. We've individually selected each material and product for its quality, reputation, beauty, and value.
Siding and Roofing
Siding and Roofing
Siding is not only the most outwardly visible feature of your home, it also helps keep water and pests from getting in. The Homebuilt Cabin comes with multiple siding types, depending which size you pick. Each of these materials is extremely durable, easy to install, and looks great!
Just as important as the siding is what's underneath it. The Cabin kit comes standard with Advantech ZipWall sheathing (the panels that attach to your studs and are covered by the siding). This engineered Zip Wall system, especially combined with the included ZipTape seam sealer, is a water-repelling fortress surrounding your home. In fact, after you install the Zip Wall, you'll wonder why you even need siding... but trust us, your home will be so much nicer with one or all of these siding choices!
While we've carefully designed where to use each of these siding materials on the Cabin, we are happy to work with you to make the exterior of your home reflect your personal tastes and the neighborhood in which you are building.
Like the siding, roofing protects your home (and you!) from rain, snow, and pests. So, we've selected a lifetime shingle made by one of the most reputable roofing manufacturers in the country. That being said, there's a lot more to roofing than its warranty - these architectural shingles create a beautiful, rich pattern of highlights and shadoes, highlighting the generous, steep gable roof on the Cabin.
As with the walls, the Cabin kit includes the Advantech Zip system for roof sheathing (the wood panels that go above the rafters and are covered by the shingles). Being native New Englanders, however, we take water and ice protection extremely seriously. So, not only are all seams between the waterproof Zip panels covered with impenetrable Zip Tape, we've included enough Ice and Water Shield to cover the entire Cabin roof. This thick, self-adhering rubber membrane will withstand the worst possible ice damns, and in a pinch, you could turn your house upside down and use the roof as the hull of a very tightly sealed boat!
You have a choice of a wide variety of roofing colors. Please cycle through the images and start dreaming of how striking your Cabin's roof will look against a bright blue summer sky.
Windows and doors touch on almost every aspect of what will make your home a wonderful place. They break up the outside walls creating an appealing pattern from the outside, they bring natural light and ventilation into your home, and they form the architectural connection between the inside and the outside.
We've selected Casement and Awning windows for the Cabin because both of these allow the most uninterrupted natural light to enter your home, they are more energy efficient than other window styles, and, in the case of awning windows, they make it possible to bring fresh, cool air into your home even during a summer rain shower.

There exist more options for flooring than nearly any other building material. However, there are also clear reasons to pick one over the other. We recommend laminate flooring, and include it in the Cabin kit, for several reasons: First, it looks great and has a range of finishes that complement the Cabin’s warm, contemporary look. It’s durable, even in kitchens and bathrooms. Installation is much easier with laminates than other flooring types. And, finally, laminate flooring is a great value, adding beauty without breaking the bank. While Homebuilt flooring kits come with all of the materials, fasteners, and adhesives you need to install the flooring yourself or hire someone to install it for you.
Browse the abundant finish and color choices below. And, as with everything else in Homebuilt Kits, if you'd prefer to get your flooring somewhere else, we're happy to leave it out of your kit and deduct it from the price. It's your home, and there's no need to compromise on what you really want.
The kitchen is often the functional center of the home, so we believe it should be welcoming as well as functional. Both Cabin kitchens are designed for comfort and convenience, and are generously sized. The cabinetry combines beautiful, durable finishes and is designed to maximize storage. We’ve selected Ikea cabinets because that company has a great reputation for producing cabinetry that is both beautiful and exceptionally easy to install, with a wide variety of sizes, features, and matching accessories. Their Sektion series is also highly modular, meaning you can easily swap shelves for drawers or solid doors for glass as your needs and tastes change over time.
As with all Homebuilt kits, the kitchen cabinetry includes every material needed to install the kitchen yourself, as well as looks that will make you want to show off your handiwork.

Mies van der Rohe, pioneer of the modernist bauhaus movement of design, is often quoted for having said, "God is in the details." We wanted the Cabin to look as beautiful from 10 inches away as it does from the street. Below are some of the details we've selected for this design, which reflect Cabin's the unique blend of modern, clean lines and timeless, traditional charm.
